A Copywriting Course Worth Taking???
BetterCopywriting.com Course Review
And now, a drum roll for Wendy Cox who asks: “Do you know anything about "Michael Masterson's Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting"? There are several sites on the net selling this course and I am wondering what you know about it or similar programs like it. Thanks!”
Thank you Wendy. To answer your question – I know everything and nothing about this program and programs like it. Next question. Yes, I am kidding ... and also quite serious. Although, I have traveled other roads, I have not been specifically involved with Michael Masterson’s Program. Everything I’ve read about the program has been from its own promotional materials, which of course tell you it’s terrific and life changing and that you absolutely should sign up.
Just by reading, you can see that Michael Masterson knows his stuff. He is both a copywriting master and master of the art of persuasion. His program description provides many impressive testimonials, some of which are from highly respected copywriters in the field. It is almost impossible not to be intrigued by sales copy such as this ...
“You will learn from the master copywriter who has sold over $1 Billion in products and services…Michael Masterson is a Master Copywriter who has earned his clients over $1,000,000,000.00 worth of sales in the last 15 years.
Learn how to effectively write your direct mail campaign-- and then take those powerful copywriting secrets and apply it to writing direct opt-in email marketing campaigns… You just cannot lose! The step-by-step process you are taught will make writing your direct mail and email marketing campaigns extremely profitable.”
The copy goes on and becomes more and more convincing. But can we trust what we’re reading? Because of my passion for the subject, if I had endless time and money, I would probably sign up for just about every copywriting course and seminar on earth. However, I have learned from experience that, when it comes taking a course, you get out of it what you put into it. If you are willing to follow instructions, complete each and every assignment, read everything that is presented to you, then and only then will you get your money’s worth.
You’ve got to ask yourself: As described, is this course going to give me what I’m looking for ... am I willing to commit a year to this process ... do I have enough interest in the subject to pay the price? Here are a couple of suggestions that will answer this question for you better than I could in a million years and, at the same time, keep your costs to a minimum.
If you are not 100% sure that copywriting is the field you want to pursue, here’s an intensive 5 day course given by Ken Evoy that will not cost you one red cent:
Netwriting Masters Course.
Try it and see – you have nothing to lose and lots of great information to gain.
However, if you are bound and determined to take Michael Masterson’s course, you can try it out for $39.00 with 30 days to decide if you want to continue. Should you decide it’s not for you, you can cancel, return the materials and get your $39.00 back. If you did want to continue and pay $39.00 a month for an additional 12 months, you’d have that option. You can see for yourself at:
The Writer's Life
Just one note of warning: Although there is a 10% discount offered for making payment in full ($457), I urge you not go that route. Although the 30 day guarantee still applies, these smart sales people know that you will be less inclined to cancel when you make that payment in full up front. Despite the fact that it costs a little more, the monthly payment option allows you to change your mind at any point in time. It would be a shame to get to day 35 or 40 and realize then that you’re out the full $457.
The fact is that, while one person thinks this course is God’s gift to copywriting, another person will find it totally lacking. We all have different backgrounds, learning styles and circumstances, and that’s why there are so many different books and courses on the subject to begin with – so we can pick and choose. Now do you see why I answered earlier that I know everything – and nothing?
Wendy, no doubt you were looking for a simple “this course is great” or “this course sucks” answer. Despite the fact that it’s not what you got, I hope you find today’s column to be of genuine value.
